Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website. Here is where it stands, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
- We want everyone to be able to use cotterpin.io, and we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
- We have not yet had the site independently audited, so we describe what we have built and what we know is not yet right.
- If something gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it or get you the information another way.
1. What this statement covers
This statement covers the cotterpin.io website, including these policies and their PDF copies. The Cotterpin software is a command-line tool; its output is plain text that works with screen readers and terminal magnifiers.
2. Current status
We believe the site partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 level AA. This is our own assessment, last made on 11 October 2026, when every page was also checked at a phone's width (375 pixels); the site has not been independently audited.
3. What we have built in
- A “Skip to content” link on every page, and a visible focus outline on everything you can reach with a keyboard.
- Headings, landmarks and labelled navigation, so screen-reader users can move around each page.
- Tables with captions and header cells; decorative symbols hidden from screen readers.
- The animated terminal demonstrations are hidden from screen readers and replaced by a written summary of what each shows. Each has a Pause control, and nothing moves if your system is set to reduce motion.
- The use-case tabs work with the arrow keys; the changelog filters say which one is selected.
- Text is real text, not images of text, and pages reflow on small screens.
- Every policy is a normal web page; its PDF is a convenience copy.
4. Known issues
- The live terminal demonstrations change content automatically. Screen-reader users get the written summary instead, but some sighted keyboard users may find the movement distracting until they pause it.
- Secondary text uses a muted grey on a dark background. Its contrast is 6.65:1 on the page and 6.16:1 on panels, above the AA minimum of 4.5:1; the main text is 16.79:1. Colours set inside individual demonstrations have not all been measured.
- The site is dark-themed only; there is no light theme yet.
- The PDF copies of our policies are generated from the web pages and may not be fully tagged for assistive technology. The web page is always the accessible version.
5. Reporting a barrier
If you find something you cannot use, or need any of our content in another format, email support@cotterpin.io. Tell us the page and what went wrong. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
6. If you are not happy with our response
In the UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces the Equality Act 2010. If you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
7. Review
We review this statement whenever we make a significant change to the website, and at least once a year.
